It starts before the truck arrives
A refrigeration unit is designed to hold a temperature, not to pull warm product down to it. That means the trailer is pre-cooled to set-point before loading, and the product itself is at temperature when it comes off the dock. If either of those is wrong, the reefer spends the first hours of the trip fighting a battle it should never have been in.
Live monitoring, not a paper log
Every refrigerated closed body in the Master Cargo fleet runs Thermo King units with real-time temperature tracking, location and alarm information. The control room in Durbanville sees the set-point, the return-air temperature and any door events as they happen. If a unit drifts, the operations manager knows before the driver reaches the next town, not when the trailer is opened in Johannesburg.
Doors are the weak point
Every time a trailer door opens, warm air comes in and cold air falls out. Multi-drop secondary distribution is where most temperature excursions happen. We plan drop sequences to keep door-open time short, and we train drivers on the discipline of closing up between pallets.

A truck that runs to schedule spends its planned hours on the road and no more.
